So, for now, the main currency before the full launch of the game is aUEC, which might face changes with updates. aUEC (Alpha United Earth Credits) In the Alpha phase of the Star Citizen, you will be presented with aUEC or known as Alpha United Earth Credits. This Currency isn’t the permanent one, but rather for the in-game balance and economic testing (Alpha Phase). Skimmer missions will send you to Communication Arrays or Security Port Kareah. Once you arrive at the destination use your ship’s scanner to find their locations. They will show up as little squares after a scan pulse is sent into space. You have 5 minutes to destroy 3 of them which is easily doable if you use the scanner well and don’t waste time fighting the AI. Warning: AVOID skimmer destruction missions under “Personal” tab – they will likely give you a crime stat! Warning 2: If skimmer missions stop spawning you can try returning to Port Olisar and changing server. Usually this lets you get new missions on new server. If this doesn’t work, try Option 2 (or Option 3) for a while and return to Option 1.
Server side issues are essentially the main performance bottleneck currently. The server has a lot of load which is the main cause of performance issues on the client side. I won’t get into too much technical details, but they are using a lot of tools to fix these issues like OCS, SSOCS, server meshing and so on. The development of these tools is progressing in parallel with the game and we do see improvements from time to time. But to be completely honest, I would rather not comment on how much they can improve this unless I see it first hand. Its a bit premature to state the final system requirements for the released game, but we can certainly talk about the current situation. Look at some of my hardware guides here.
As much as the visuals and animation are stunning, it also lacks realism based on physics. Granted, it’s a game, so most casuals will not make a fuss about it, but if you are a hardcore gamer, it can bother you because it takes away some part of the realistic gaming experience. If you want to reach the expert level, that won’t because the learning curve is very steep. Also, your character will not level up because you performed some tasks or made some kills. The game does not have a character leveling up feature, and it’s the same thing for flying your ship. Previous flight experience is not going to help you at all.
Ship combat is fun and has been fun since at least 2015. There is a mode called Arena Commander where you can go against other players or AI in small pre-generated maps. Because these maps are only meant for small skirmishes, performance is very very good. I get well over 100 fps. Small fighters like the Galdius and Arrow are fast and nimble. Medium fighters can have stealth (Sabre), be good at brawling (Hornet) or be glass cannons (Hurricane). You even have heavy fighters like the Vanguard series which is reminiscent of the P-38 Lightning from WW2. Speaking of WW2, combat is essentially WW2 dogfighting with some cold war missiles/ stealth tech blended in. Find more info at https://www.mmopixel.com/.
