Top aquaculture equipment wholesale manufacturer and supplier: Intensive aquaculture delivers unique advantages that address West Africa’s specific constraints and opportunities. Its core strength lies in resource efficiency: it produces significantly higher yields per unit of water and land compared to traditional farming or wild fishing, a critical advantage in a region where arable land is limited but water resources are abundant – including massive reservoirs like Lake Volta, the world’s largest man-made lake by area. Species such as tilapia, catfish, and white-legged shrimp thrive in high-density conditions, making them ideal for intensive systems while requiring lower protein intake, reducing reliance on expensive fishmeal. Unlike seasonal wild fishing, intensive aquaculture enables year-round production with predictable yields, stabilizing food supplies and prices for consumers while providing consistent income for farmers.
Biology of species is important to identify the best hydraulic strategy. Cold-water species, which include trout and salmon, tend to have a high turnover rate due to their parasites being able to live longer in cold water (Madsen & Stauffer, 2024). On the other hand, warm-water species may have a higher retention time limit because of the variation in metabolic stability and oxygen requirement. The marine finfish are groupers, snappers, and sea bass which enjoy greater flow velocities and more beneficial aeration that also improve water quality and interfere with parasite attachment behaviors such as Neobenedenia, a highly problematic monogenean (Abbas et al., 2023). Therefore, designing a parasite-resistant flowing aquaculture system requires a deep understanding of the interaction between hydrodynamics and species-specific biology.
Nitrifying bacteria are very sensitive to oxidative stress and thus, any remaining ozone must not be released into the biofilter. Modern RAS engineering fulfils this need by ensuring practical system layout. This involves injection of ozone in a special contact chamber which is then combined with water over a controlled duration. An off-gas or degassing unit is provided downstream which removes any residual ozone and the water is then passed into the biofilter. This will avoid exposing nitrifying bacteria to reactive oxidative molecules which have the potential of destroying their metabolic pathways(Mahmoodi & Pishbin, 2025). With a well-designed system, the biofilter has the advantage of cleaner, clearer, oxygen-rich water with a much lower organic load. This will enhance the stability of nitrifying colonies and efficiency of ammonia conversion leading to more effective control of water-quality(Pumkaew et al., 2021). Backed by strategic partnerships with five leading Chinese universities – including Ocean University of China and Shanghai Ocean University – and certified to ISO 9001, ISO 22000, CE and COA standards, Wolize has delivered projects in 47 countries and regions. To date we have built 22 large-scale facilities, each exceeding 3,000 m³ of water volume, while the fish grown in our systems are now exported to 112 countries worldwide.
In terms of water resource utilization, RAS systems demonstrate an extremely water-saving characteristic. Traditional pond farming relies on natural water sources for replenishment, with each pond requiring hundreds of cubic meters of water for each water change, and is significantly restricted by water quality and seasonal changes. In contrast, RAS systems achieve over 90% water recycling through physical filtration and biological purification, only requiring a small amount of new water to make up for evaporation and waste discharge, resulting in a water-saving rate of over 95%. This advantage is particularly prominent in areas with water shortages, as it breaks the dependence on natural water sources and reduces water extraction costs.
To ensure the success of the dual ozone-biofilter system, it is important to maintain the right operation parameters. The values of oxidation-reduction potential in the ozone contact chamber are normally 275 to 320 millivolts (mV). This spectrum aids in efficient reduction of organic matter without generating any undesirable reaction byproducts (Davidson et al., 2021). Before the ozone unit, mechanical drum filters of sixty to one hundred microns in size are used to remove large, suspended solids to enhance ozone efficiency by decreasing the organic load. Optimal values of dissolved organic carbon are four milligrams per liter because beyond this level, the water fails to be clear and promotes the growth of microbes. The concentration of dissolved oxygen below the ozone chamber is usually more than nine milligrams per liter since ozone decomposes naturally to produce oxygen. Having high dissolved oxygen levels greatly improves fish metabolism as well as the rate of nitrification. Most importantly, the amount of residual ozone entering the biofilter should also be zero, this is achieved through constant monitoring to ensure that the nitrifying bacteria is not damaged.
